If you are looking for a more robust launch controller once you have graduated from A/B/C powered rockets, the NCR LaunchMaster™ should be your choice. Designed by Dave Meyers (former Estes R&D engineer), it is bigger than the traditional starter-set launch controller, and it uses batteries with larger electrical capacity so you can launch lots of rockets in succession without having to worry about having enough power.

The LaunchMaster Launch Controller is designed to be a durable device that can electrically ignite your model rocket motors from 1/4A up to a G power. It is simple and intuitive to use, in a manner that is similar to the smaller Estes launch controllers – you simply insert the safety key, listen for the buzzer that indicates continuity, and push the launch button at T-0. But like other North Coast products, this is heavy duty and sized for mid-power rockets. It’s a step up.

The LaunchMaster uses an audible warning tone when the key has been inserted into the controller. This tells you that there is a complete circuit (and your starter has been hooked up properly), and it warns spectators that you are getting ready to launch.

The LaunchMaster features 30 ft. (9.1m) of wire from the controller to the clips, allowing you to stand farther back when launching rockets. The 30 ft. distance is required by the NAR Safety Code for rockets powered by motors larger than “D” class.

The controller has been tested and works with:

  • Aerotech FirstFire Mini Starters
  • Aerotech FirstFire Jr. Starters
  • Aerotech FirstFire Starters
  • Estes Startech Starters
  • Estes Solar Starters
  • Estes Sonic Starters
  • Quest Q2G2 starters
  • MJG Firewire Initiators (non-BATF regulated electric matches)

The LaunchMaster features plenty of power to ignite clusters of up to seven motors at a time. The internal battery eliminates the fuss of hooking up to an external power supply. The unit features an integral charging jack so that you can plug the charger into the LaunchMaster and charge the battery without removing it.

The LaunchMaster comes preassembled, using a heavy-duty case that easily fits in one hand. It includes a safety key with a bright red nylon loop, making it easy to find in the grass if you should drop it. It is proudly made in the USA.

The clips have heatshrink tubing over the joint where the wire attaches to the smooth jaw micro clip. Not only does this help to prevent the metal clips from touching each other and shorting out, but it also helps prevent the connection from corroding from the rocket exhaust.

Requires one Ovonic 3000mAh 11.1V Lipo battery pack (or similar) (sold separately as NCR Product 826, LaunchMaster Battery and Controller elsewhere on the website).
